The austere, white-walled aesthetic defies what a warming bolthole this casual cafe is, especially in the evenings when it's a great neighborhood hangout. The elevated comfort grub menu makes instant vegetarians of anyone who's hungry – particularly if you dive into the spicy Southern-fried artichoke sandwich. Add BC craft beer to the proceedings: Four Winds or 33 Acres brews recommended.
The Arbor's menu changes seasonally (if you're lucky, the jackfruit steam buns will be available), while in summer its garage-style front window is thrown open and a hidden back garden also comes into play. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on the menu and this is also a good spot to order takeout if you fancy dining alfresco somewhere else.
