The Downtown Eastside's most-accessible dive bar started a century ago and, in recent years, it's dusted off the jazz chops that saw Jelly Roll Morton play here back in the day. Monday night sees no-cover jazz shows from 7:30pm, while there are often other cover-free jazz and blues happenings throughout the week. Check the pub's website calendar for events.
The good-value beer menu includes house-made ales from Hastings Mill Brewing; check out any available seasonals or dive straight into their Skid Road IPA. The food here is a cut above typical pub fare – pulled pork poutine, for example – with almost everything on the menu priced under $12.
