Paillard

Cafe in Old Québec & Port

At this bright, buzzy and high-ceilinged café-boulangerie (cafe-bakery) crammed with tourists, diners seated at long wooden tables tuck into tasty gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads. The attached bakery, with its alluring display cases, is downright irresistible – try the tentation ($3), a delicious sweet pastry loaded with berries.

Another favorite here is the savory fougasse (Provençal-style bread brushed with olive oil and studded with olives and herbs, $5.60). Paillard is a bit of a madhouse at lunchtime.
