Beyond the Old Town walls, there are several eating districts, where you'll find some of the city's most innovative, boundary-pushing chefs. The main thoroughfare in St-Jean Baptiste, away from the tourist haunts, has inexpensive restaurants, many with a BYOW policy. In Montcalm, bistros line Ave Cartier between Grande Allée Ouest and Blvd René-Lévesque Ouest, attracting a local clientele. In the artsy St-Roch district, a smattering of bistros and cafes featuring trendy nouvelle cuisine have appeared in recent years; even more innovative are the bistros in contiguous St-Sauveur. It's more of a cafe scene in Limoilu, but that’s changing fast.
