Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island in detail

A tough bunch with a good sense of humor, Maritimers are friendly and polite. Social norms are fairly relaxed.

  • Greetings Handshaking is acceptable but not required. Don't be surprised if your host or guide gives you a hug.
  • Queues Canadians love to queue. Stand patiently in line, never jump the queue and please don't complain.
  • Language Loud, foul or aggressive language in public will turn heads and is not appreciated. Among friends, however, Maritimers can talk trash with the best of them. Keep your audience in mind.
  • Drunkenness Locals like to drink, but nobody likes a rude or aggressive drunk. Know your limit.
