Welcome to Lake Cowichan & Around
West of Duncan on Hwy 18, the waterfront town of Lake Cowichan is an ideal destination for outdoorsy types. Hugging the eastern end of the lake and the adjoining Cowichan River, the town marks the end of the Trans-Canada Trail, a mammoth hiking and biking route that runs across the country from Newfoundland. While you probably won't be taking on the whole thing, you can take a photo at the grand wooden marker and tell everyone back home that you did. It's worth taking a few deep breaths at the ultra clear, tree-fringed lakefront – look out for elk and perhaps the occasional black bear – and you should also consider a swim or area hike here.
