Welcome to Bathurst

Several historic buildings were damaged by fire in 2015, but the streets still are a pleasant place for a stroll and to stretch your legs. The revamped harborfront is where you'll find the tourist office and a couple of restaurants. There's not a lot to do here, but it's a good jumping-off point to nature-based activities around the town and wider Chaleur Bay area: Youghall Beach (near Alston Point), the lovely Daly Point Nature Reserve, and the Pabineau Falls.

Bathurst's original name was Nepisiquit, a Mi'qmaq word meaning 'Rough Waters'.
