Welcome to Baie Comeau

The town owes its existence to Robert McCormick, former owner of the Chicago Tribune, who in 1936 decided to build a colossal pulp and paper factory here. This enterprise necessitated harnessing the hydroelectric power of the Manicouagan and Outardes Rivers, which in turn begat other hydro-dependent industries such as aluminum processing.
