Feature: La Mare aux Poissons Sacrés & Koro

The sacred fish pond of Dafra, around 6km southeast of Bobo, is an important animist site: local people come here to solicit spirits by sacrificing chickens and feeding them to the fish. It is a fairly grisly sight, with chicken bones and feathers everywhere; the 30-minute walk from the nearest parking spot to the pond is truly stunning, however, with arresting rock formations and gorgeous savannah landscapes. A taxi there and back from Bobo-Dioulasso will cost around CFA10,000 (be aware that the track is atrocious).

You can easily follow on from Dafra to the village of Koro for some beautiful views of the area.
