Experience the magic of playing, become a witness of a centuries-old tradition, participate in the biggest masquerade event on the Balkans.Meet the living mystical bearers of the Bulgarian traditions called “Survakari” and “Kukeri”! Together we will witness this centuries-old tradition which has gained UNESCO World Heritage status.The city of Pernik (which is famous for being Bulgaria’s steel industry capital) will be hosting the festival for the 28th time in its 50 years history. The city is part of the European carnival cities.In this 28th edition of the festival there will about 6000 Kukeri who are participants from more than 100 masquerade teams. Here you can witness participants from all ethnographic regions in Bulgaria, as well as international participants from Europe, Africa and Asia.
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productPass By: Plovdiv Old Town, Plovdiv, Plovdiv ProvinceThe tour starts at 08:00 am when our tripvam representative will pick you up at your hotel.We leave for Pernik and have a 2 hours drive.Pernik’s main square will be the scene for many local dances, singing, and performance in traditional costumes.There are lots of places to eat where you will certainly enjoy Bulgarian cuisine – salads, gherkins, cabbage, peppers, green tomatoes etc. Also, you shouldn’t miss trying out Bulgarian ketchup called lutenitsa which is much tastier garnished with red wine or rakia!We depart for Plovdiv at 5:00 pm and will arrive at approximately 7:30 pmEnd point – we’ll drop you off at your hotel.Optional additional evening tour of Plovdiv, which ends with a traditional Bulgarian dinner – on request.
