Getting There & Away

There are daily boat services to Boipeba, Gamboa and Morro de São Paulo from the port in the center. Most travelers arrive to the port on one of the frequent Cidade Sol (www.viacaocidadesol.com.br) buses (R$13 to R$20, 16 daily) that runs between Bom Despacho (on the island of Itaparica, where the ferry leaves for Salvador) and the port of Camamu (with connections to Barra Grande on the Peninsula Marau). Valença is about midway between the two, roughly a two-hour bus ride from both Bom Despacho and Camamu. Buses stop at the port. Águia Branca (www.aguiabranca.com.br) runs the same route, with fewer departures. The bus station, a 1km hike or a R$20 taxi ride from the port, has additional options for onward travel.
