Trilha dos Cânions e Cariocas

Hiking in Parque Nacional da Chapada Dos Veadeiros

Red arrows mark this 12km return trail that weaves along the Rio Preto through the middle of the park. After a fairly flat, scenic stroll, the trail branches, one path heading into the spectacular Cânion II, cut by the river through sandstone with sheer 20m-high walls on either side. The other leads to rock formations and a huge cascading waterfall.

You can swim at both the canyon and the waterfall, which is named Cachoeira das Cariocas for two girls from Rio who went missing here in the 1980s.
