For the benefit of everyone dropping by the Brazil branch for the first time, please read this FAQ first. And I hope there can be some sort of way to moderate the thread to keep it updated and clean. I know there are some AWESOME regular contributors here who enjoy giving advice; I feel this thread can really help to condense the information available.

I'll go first, with some general thoughts from the South America FAQ. Many thank to Apollo for starting that thread and for a great idea…

Hi,

I have part of a trip to Brazil booked, but the second part - to North Brazil - is a problem. I can't get flights from Cuiaba to Boa Vista at reasonable prices from Trailfinders.

I am not keen on Expedia.

Does anyone know of reliable, honest travel agents in Brazil who can sell domestic flights ?

My wife and I would like to visit the Pantanal this July or August to see the wildlife living in this unique ecosystem. We're seasoned wildlife travelers, so we know that nothing is guaranteed, but we'd really like to see a jaguar and a giant anteater primarily, but we also would like to see Brazilian tapirs, giant river otters, an ocelot, rheas, hyacinth macaws, and toco toucans. An anaconda would be nice too. Basically, I'm trying to find out where would be the best place to go in order to…

Hi,
We are little late in planning. So far we only have our international flight to Rio (June 2nd).
The following destinations/itinerary we have in mind:

  • Rio
  • Continue to Iguazú falls
  • Fly to Cuiabá and book a tour to the Pantanal and maybe Chapada dos Guimarães
  • Fly to Campo Grande and take a bus to Bonito
  • Fly from Campo Grande back to Rio
  • Depending on time visit Paraty and Ilha Grande

Since we don‘t know when we will be where we scrapped the idea of a pre-booked air pass (GOL or…

Hello,
I'm a 24 years old female student, going to a Winter school in Sao Paolo for two weeks in July(16th until 27th July). I want to stay in Brazil for two or three weeks after that and want to travel a bit. Since I have only two or maximum three weeks I don’t want to see many attractions in different parts of the country, I would prefer to concentrate on a southeast /south part and come back to Brasil other time to see other parts (like Iguazu waterfalls, Pantanal, Mato grosso do sul, etc.) -…

Hey Everyone,

I've spent most of the afternoon mining through old posts looking for some tips, some of which were helpful somewhere dead ends, so I thought I post a new thread. Apologies if this is a repeat.

My wife, 1 year old son and I are headed to the Amazon for a short 3/5 day adventure. We're looking for companies and accommodations that fit our needs.

We'll be based in Sao Paulo and are thinking we'll fly into Manaus (but not 100% married to that jumping off place). We are looking…

Does anyone know of direct travel options from Arraial do Cabo to GIG (Rio's international) airport? What we have found so far includes:

1 A private car (Taxi) costs about $175 USD.

2 AutoViacao1001 has multiple buses each day to both Niteroi bus station, which is east of Rio, and Rotoviaria, which is north of Rio. Presumably you take a taxi the rest of the way or another (local) bus.

My real question is, are there any buses or shuttles that go directly to GIG from Arraial do Cabo?

Hi fellow-travellers,

I've just written a travel report based on an (almost) 4,500-km boat journey down the Amazon River from Iquitos, Peru to the Atlantic Ocean.

While the different journeys took a total of 150 hours of travel, I spent considerably more time along the way exploring destinations such as Iquitos, Leticia, Tabatinga, Manaus, Santarém, Belém, Marajó Island and Macapá.

For each destination, I've provided information on Sightseeing, Accommodation, Eating Out, Getting There/ Away…

Dear All,

There have been a few fellow travellers that have made this crossing, but I have noticed that they (senisibly, or luckily did not need to do the crossing during the time of the year when the rain is the strongest and biggest). I believe that the rain is heavy in April and as we need to cross in a week or so, I thought I would ask before arriving in Macapa about the effect on roads and whether it is still possible to get through to french guiana, by road or boat at this time.

Can…
