On Sunday mornings this otherwise sleepy square comes alive with one of the city’s finest markets. Stalls sell art, jewelry, crafted goods and home-cooked food, and a chorinho (romantic, improvised samba) band plays under the bandstand from 10am until early afternoon. Luizinho’s drinks stall sells caipirinhas strong enough to sustain the party long after the band have packed up and gone home.
Situated in the heart of tranquil Laranjeiras, this charming little square has a bandstand, a pretty fountain, plenty of benches and a children’s play area. On weekdays, the general lack of activity in this mostly residential area means that, unless you’re looking for a peaceful place to read a book, there isn’t much to hold the interest beyond a quick look around.
