Brazil is an excellent place to meet other travelers. There’s a large network of hostels, and many towns that are particularly suited for meeting travel companions (Rio, Salvador and Jericoacoara topping the list). Language schools, group tours and volunteer work provide fine opportunities for mingling with travelers and locals.
Since double rooms often cost only slightly more than single ones, solo travelers face higher accommodations costs than others. If you’re on a tight budget – or simply want to meet other travelers – the hostels are your best bet.
