Welcome to Paranapiacaba
Founded by the British-owned São Paulo Railway Company, the pretty town of Paranapiacaba may sit amid the Atlantic rainforest of the Serra do Mar, about 40km southeast of São Paulo, but it still retains distinctly English traits, right down to a rough replica of Big Ben. Because of its remoteness, the town has been remarkably well preserved, with a neat grid of streets populated by English-style buildings of wood and brick wrapped in maroon picket fences; and vaguely feels like a future ghost town still clinging to life.
