To & From the Airport

Natal's airport at São Gonçalo do Amarante is quite a haul, 35km west of Ponta Negra. Trampolím da Vitória runs a public bus that's hardly worth the hassle from Ponta Negra. You need to catch bus 46, 54 or 73 along Av Engenheiro Roberto Freire to Midway Mall (R$3.35, 45 minutes), then switch for the 'R' bus, which hems and haws its way to the airport (R$4.20, 1½ hrs, every 30 to 45 minutes from 5:10am to 11:30pm), passing the bus stop directly in front of the bus station exit along the way. From the airport, catch the 'R' just outside Arrivals. Most travelers opt for the far more convenient shared van services such as 24 Horas Turismo and Van Service, which run shared vans to Natal ($40) and Praia da Pipa (R$60) usually leaving after each flight; to the airport; make a reservation in advance for pickup three hours before departure.

A taxi from the airport costs about R$100 to Ponta Negra, R$226 to São Miguel do Gostoso and R$240 or so to Praia da Pipa.

To & From the Bus Station

For Ponta Negra (Av Engenheiro Roberto Freire), catch bus 66 (R$3.35) from the stop opposite the Petrobras gas station next to the Rodoviária Nova; a taxi costs R$35 to R$50 depending on time of day and location in Ponta Negra.

From the city center take buses 19, 38 or 23–69 from the Rodoviária Velha local bus terminal.

Bus

From stops north of Rota do Sol on Av Engenheiro Roberto Freire in Ponta Negra, buses 26, 46 and 73 run north to the Praia Shopping and Via Direta malls; 56 goes along the Via Costeira to Areia Preta then heads inland towards the city center.

Most city center buses leave from the Rodoviária Velha local bus terminal.
