Getting There & Away
São Benedito runs six daily buses to/from Fortaleza bus station (R$25, 3¼ hours) departing 6am, 8:30am, 11am, 1:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:30pm. In Canoa you can buy tickets in advance at SB Viagens, the agency in town representing São Benedito.
Alternatively, you can travel by tour van (R$55, 2½ hours) with companies such as Oceanview. The tour vans pick up and drop off at accommodations in Fortaleza, departing around 8am and returning from the west end of Canoa's Dragão do Mar around 4pm.
Coming from Rio Grande do Norte, get off the bus at Aracati, 13km southwest of Canoa. From there with any luck you can catch São Benedito's Fortaleza–Canoa bus (R$1.85, 20 minutes), departing around 9am, 11:20am, 2pm, 4:35pm, 7:20pm and 8:35pm. Otherwise, minibuses known colloquially as topícs (R$3, about every half-hour) depart 6am to 7:30pm from the Igreja Matriz in Aracati's center, about 1km from the bus station.
Taxis charge R$35 to R$40 for the quick Aracati–Canoa run.
Commercial flights were approved in 2015 for the new airport at Aracati, but at time of writing its runways remained unused, although charter flights may be in the pipeline.
