Tour description provided by Viator

On the other side of Guanabara Bay we can find the city of Niteroi. Nicknamed "The Smile City" (Cidade Sorriso), it is just a short ferry ride from downtown Rio across Guanabara Bay or just drive through the longest bridge in Brazil, the Ponte Rio-Niterói; just like the name says it connects both cities. Old capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, besides the wonderful view that we have of it for Rio de Janeiro, you will have the chance to know some of the famous buildings made by the great architect Niemeyer like the MAC - Contemporary Art Museum

It connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. It is currently the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the southern hemisphere, and the sixth-longest in the world. From its completion in 1974 until 1985 it was the world's second-longest bridge, second only to the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.Stop At: Teatro Popular Oscar Niemeyer, Niteroi, State of Rio de JaneiroIn Niteroi you will have a chance to see several works done by the famous architect Niemeyer, the same one that built our capital, BrasiliaDuration: 1 hourStop At: Museu de Arte Contemporanea de Niteroi, Niteroi, State of Rio de JaneiroDesigned by Oscar Niemeyer with the assistance of structural engineer Bruno Contarini, who had worked with Niemeyer on earlier projects, the MAC-Niterói is 16 meters high; its cupola has a diameter of 50 meters with three floors. The museum projects itself over Boa Viagem (“Bon Voyage,” “Good Journey”) beach and also a neighborhood, the 817 square metres (8,790 sq ft) reflecting pool that surrounds the cylindrical base “like a flower,” in the words of Niemeyer.[citation needed]A wide access slope leads to a Hall of Expositions, which has a capacity for sixty people. Two doors lead to the viewing gallery, through which can be seen Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, and Sugarloaf Mountain. The saucer-shaped modernist structure, which has been likened to a UFO, is set on a cliffside, at the bottom of which is a beach. In the film Oscar Niemeyer, an architect committed to his century, Niemeyer is seen flying over Rio de Janeiro in a UFO which then lands on the site, suggesting this to be the origin of the museum.Duration: 30 minutesStop At: Fortaleza de Santa Cruz da Barra, Niteroi, State of Rio de JaneiroSanta Cruz da Barra Fortress is located on the eastern side of the Guanabara Bay Bar, in the Jurujuba neighborhood, in the municipality of Niterói, in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.Crossing fires with the Fortress of St. John and the Fort Tamandaré da Laje, it constituted the main defensive structure of the bar of Guanabara Bay and the city and port of Rio de Janeiro during the period of the Colony and the Empire.Duration: 30 minutesStop At: Parque da Cidade, Niteroi, State of Rio de JaneiroFrom the top of this park you will see a breathtaking view of the Guanabara Bay as well as the city of Rio de Janeiro.
