Getting There & Away
Access to Algodoal is via the mainland village of Marudá. Boats leave for Algodoal (R$10, 40 minutes) at 9am, 11am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm and 5pm daily, plus 8:30pm Friday. Buses from Belém drop off (and pick up) passengers at the port, but vans only go as far as the bus station, which is five long blocks away, or R$15 in a taxi.
Arriving at Algodoal, a slew of donkey-cart drivers will vie for the chance to take you to your hotel (per person R$12). Some drivers will try to convince you to go to certain hotels where they earn a commission; always insist on going to the one of your choosing.
Boats return to the mainland at 6am, 8am, 10:30am and 1:30pm daily, plus 3pm Friday, and 3pm and 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Buses for Belém wait for passengers from the boat to leave, though you may need to make your way quickly to Marudá's bus station to catch them.
