The peaceful town would start to change in 1920, when an international recognized painter moved to Embu. Afterwards, Embu started receiving an influx of artists and hippies that in the late 60s started the tradition of “Open Art Fairs” that persist in the weekends and holidays until nowadays. Finally, in 2011, Embu officially changed name to Embu das Artes.
