Most of Thimphu's taxis are small cars and minivans with meters that the drivers rarely use. Taxi drivers have a habit of charging foreigners, including Indians, as much as they can – one of Bhutan's few rip-offs. A short ride around town costs approximately Nu 70 or you can hire a taxi for the day for between Nu 1000 and Nu 1500, depending on the destinations. The taxi stand on Chang Lam has shared taxis that shuttle across the valley when full.
