Cotonou in detail

Flights & getting there

The international airport is on the western fringe of town. A private taxi from the city centre to the airport costs around CFA3000, although drivers will demand double this amount from the airport. Zemi-johns will be happy to load you and your luggage for much less.

Bush Taxi & Bus

Cotonou has a confusingly large number of stations for minibuses, buses and bush taxis. It's easiest to ask a taxi or a zemi-john to take you to the right one.

Gare Jonquet, just west of Blvd Steinmetz, services western destinations such as Grand Popo (CFA4000, two hours).

Bush taxis for Porto Novo (CFA500 to CFA700, 45 minutes) leave from Gare du Dantokpa at the new bridge; those to Calavi-Kpota (for Ganvié; CFA500, 25 minutes), Ouidah (CFA1000) and Abomey (CFA3100, two hours) leave north of Stade de l'Amitié. Gare Missébo services Abomey (CFA2500).

For more-distant destinations, such as Natitingou, take the bus. The most reliable company at the time of writing was ATT, with daily services for Natitingou (CFA85600).

There are also additional national and international services with ABC Transport, Cross Country International, Rimbo-RTV, STIF, TCV and UTB.
