Accommodations on Ambergris Caye skew toward the high end, particularly outside of San Pedro, and the best spots tend to book up fast in high season, between December and May. Almost all hotels accept major credit cards, though you may pay a surcharge. For apartments, suites and condominiums, check www.ambergriscaye.com.
While it's convenient and fun to be in the middle of the action, some of the places right in the town center can be noisy. If you are on a tight budget, you may have no other choice.
South of San Pedro
If you need a vacation from your vacation, get out of San Pedro. South of town, you can enjoy more peace and privacy, although you still have easy access to the restaurants and facilities in town. If you don't feel like making the trek (more than a mile in some cases), a few restaurants and bars cater to the southerners.
The North Island is where you should go if you really want to get away from it all. The resorts here are all top end and mainly accessible by boat; you can travel in and out by golf cart or car to at least 5 miles north of the bridge, but the island ferry is probably a more pleasant way to go.
