Dinant has a striking setting, strung along a riverbank under spectacular cliffs. The village makes a pleasant outing for a day trip, highlighted by a visit to its clifftop citadel and a leisurely cruise (or more vigorous kayaking trip) along the Meuse. It also has great beer (Dinant is the birthplace of the famed Leffe abbey ale) and a fair amount of Sax – Adolphe Sax, that is. The creator of the saxophone grew up in Dinant, and sculptures dotting the city centre pay homage to his groundbreaking musical invention.
