Bahrain National Theatre

Top choice architecture in Manama

Adjacent to Bahrain National Museum, this stunning architectural showpiece covers nearly 12,000 sq metres. It's the third-largest theatre in the Middle East, and it's at its best up close. Seeming to float upon the water, its design owes much to local traditions – the interwoven aluminium strips that allow in air evoke the roofs of traditional local homes, while the curvaceous interior of the auditorium suggest the sea-going dhows of ancient Bahrain.

Even the number of seats in the auditorium is significant: 1001, in homage to The Thousand and One Nights.
