The Ötztal in detail

Flights & getting there

From Ötztal Bahnhof, buses head south roughly hourly to destinations including Umhausen (€5, 31 minutes) and Sölden (€10, one hour).

With your own wheels you should be able to get at least as far as Hochgurgl all year, but the road beyond into Italy via the high-alpine 2509m Timmelsjoch Pass is often blocked by snow in winter.

Trains arrive at Ötztal Bahnhof at the head of the valley and run frequently to Innsbruck (€12.50, 22 to 49 minutes), Imst-Pitztal (€3.80, nine minutes) and Landeck (€7.50, 26 minutes).
