This panoramic hike leads us along the famous world heritage trail in the Wachau region, Lower Austria. We will start in Weißenkirchen, a beautiful little village, and hike all the way to adorable Spitz, where we will visit a traditional wine tavern (Heuriger).Highlights of this varied hike are: breathtaking panoramic views over the Danube, the vine growing villages Weißenkirchen and Spitz, vineyards, stone terraces, oak forests, bizarre rock formations, rare dry grasslands – in short, an overview of the beautiful and protected landscape of the Wachau region (Unesco World Heritage).
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Wachau Valley, Joching, Lower AustriaAfter a one-hour ride from Vienna, we will reach the charming Village of Weißenkirchen, where we will start our pleasant 3-hour hike. Up- and downhill, passing through forests, vineyards and impressive rock formations with incredible views over the Danube river, we will finally reach our goal, the village of Spitz. Before we approach it, we will have a very nice view of the area by passing through the famous "Rotes Tor" (red gate). In Spitz, we will visit a traditional wine tavern or inn (depending on the season and opening hours) and try some delicious local snacks and wine (optional). I was lucky enough to be able to study in Krems, another well-known city in the Wachau area. Like that, I know this region very well. This was also the time when I fell in love with it - the very charming landscape, the vineyards, the ancient villages and the culinary delicacies make it a very special place. No wonder that the landscape has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.We will be far away from the crowds, walking the hidden paths and silent forest trails.
