Getting There & Away
Unless you're coming to Western Australia by land from other states in Australia, chances are you'll be touching down at Perth Airport. And, as you'll no doubt be told at some point, Perth is actually closer to Jakarta than Sydney.
If you are driving to Perth from another state, you're up for a very long journey—but it's a great way to see the country. Be aware that there are strict quarantine restrictions on fruit and vegetables when crossing the border into WA.
The only interstate rail link is the famous Indian Pacific, run by Great Southern Rail, which travels 4352km to Perth from Sydney (four days, three nights), including a 478km stretch across the Nullarbor that's the longest straight sections of train line in the world.
