Bistrot Plume

French in Geelong

Geelong's developing food scene is moving out into the 'burbs. In the residential neighbourhood of Belmont, this French cafe-restaurant offers classic French cuisine with a modern European take: the likes of duck confit and steak frites, chargrilled octopus and homemade herbed gnocchi. Its breakfasts of buttermilk waffles with bacon and lunches of beer-battered Moreton Bay bug burgers are likewise quality.

Its two-course lunch special ($35) is excellent value, as is the four-/five-course chef dinner menu for $85/95. The owners also run the respectable Kilgour Street Grocer & Cafe in East Geelong.
