Welcome to Flinders
Set where the thrashing ocean waves meet semi-sheltered Western Port Bay, Flinders has managed to retain a residential character in the face of the peninsula's ever-increasing popularity as a holiday destination. Its residents are an active lot, divided into surfers who are drawn by ocean-side breaks such as Gunnery, Big Left and Cyril’s; golfers who hone their handicaps at the scenic and windblown local golf club; and anglers who congregate on Flinders Pier, where plenty of whiting and calamari can be caught. Parts of Mornington Peninsula National Park are here and the Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary is immediately south of the village. The latter teems with marine and bird life, including the distinctive weedy sea-dragon, and exploring its rockpools is a popular activity with locals and visitors alike.
