Welcome to Cape Otway to Port Campbell National Park
After Cape Otway, the Great Ocean Road levels out and enters the fertile Horden Vale flats, returning briefly to the coast at tiny Glenaire. Six kilometres north of Glenaire, a 5km detour goes to the wild, thrashing and often massive surf of Johanna Beach (forget swimming). The world-famous Rip Curl Pro surfing competition relocates here when conditions at Bells Beach are flat. From here the road heads inland again up north to the historic logging township of Lavers Hill, a popular pit stop for travellers, with several cafes and pubs. The road meanders further onward to the Twelve Apostles through several relaxed towns, including the coastal hamlet of Princetown.
This stretch also forms a leg of the Great Ocean Walk, which runs from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles; see www.greatoceanwalk.com.au for details.
