Welcome to Orford

The Prosser River flows through Paradise Gorge as it heads towards the town, and is often mirror-calm with perfect reflections. On the north side of the river is a convict-built road that once ran all the way to Hobart; it’s now a riverside walking track. Another coastal track (5km) leads from Raspins Beach, along Shelly Beach, around the Luther Point cliffs and onto photogenic Spring Beach, which has improbably clear water and, if the surf gods are smiling, decent waves. The track passes a convict-era quarry that coughed out sandstone for buildings in Hobart and Melbourne.
