Welcome to Low Head
Strung along the northernmost banks of the Tamar River, Low Head sits shoulder-to-shoulder with George Town – you'll barely have time to take a breath as you leave one before you hit the other. The historic town is in a spectacular setting, looking out over the swirling – and treacherous – waters of the Tamar as it empties into the sea. Lighthouses dominate the scene, with a couple of navigational lead lights standing tall before it all comes to an end – the town and Tasmania – at the Low Head Lighthouse. There’s good surf at East Beach on Bass Strait, and safe swimming at the well-named Lagoon Beach on the Tamar.
