Welcome to Geeveston & Around

Geeveston was founded in the mid-19th century by the Geeves family, whose descendants still have fingers in lots of local pies. In the 1980s the town was the epicentre of an intense battle over logging the Farmhouse Creek forests. At the height of the controversy, conservationists spent weeks living in the tops of 80m-tall eucalypts to prevent them being felled. The conservation movement ultimately won: Farmhouse Creek is now protected from logging.

More recently, Geeveston has been the filming location for the fictional town of 'Rosehaven' for the ABC TV comedy series of the same name – a quirky and surprisingly tender insight into small-town Tasmania.
