After a staggering 19 years in beachside business, the owners here handed over the reins to their son. Back from serious hospitality work in Bali, he transformed Sandbar into a Riviera-meets-Canggu hot spot, full of intriguing interior details, happy locals and creative, globally inflected dishes.

Seafood takes a front seat, from Moreton Bay bugs grilled with pastis and taragon to Hawaiian-style poke bowls with your choice of marinated fish, edamame and avocado on quinoa. There's also a big breakfast menu where you can go for cold-pressed juices and bountiful smoothie bowls or brisket and fritters.
