With so much water, it's easy to get active on the South Coast. Surfing's good all the way down, and several places offer excursions to spot marine wildlife from boats or by snorkelling and diving. A succession of river mouths and estuaries offer calmer waters for kayaking. There are plenty of options for hikers, plus hang-gliding in places.

National parks offer good short walks and a handful of iconic longer walks, such as the Light to Light in Ben Boyd National Park or the ascent of Pigeon House Mountain (Didthul).

Good destinations for straightforward, family-friendly walks are Morton National Park, Pambula and Booderee National Park.
