Welcome to Daydream Island
Daydream Island is the closest resort to the mainland and perfectly located to attract the tourist hordes. At just over 1km long and 200m wide, the island can be explored in an hour or two; one strength is its marine biology program, which allows visitors to encounter much of the region's wildlife in a short space of time. Unfortunately, it does feel overwhelming at times, more sterile than natural. Recently sold to an investment group that plans to make it a 'luxury' destination, it will likely retain its popularity as a day-trip destination and is suitable for everybody, especially busy families, or travellers with little time to explore the 'real' Whitsundays. Damage from Cyclone Debbie in early 2017 has meant the redevelopment has been brought forward. The resort is expected to reopen in 2018.
