Welcome to Moree
Straddling the Mehi River on rich black-soil lands traditionally owned by the Gamilaroi, Moree is the largest town for some distance. It's also a focus of local Aboriginal community and culture, with a significant Indigenous population and a gallery showcasing local artists. In fact it has two very good galleries, plus broad riverside parks and a wonderful aquatic centre fed with geothermally heated water from the Great Artesian Basin. Add a few pubs, plenty of motels and some top-notch Asian dining, and it's definitely a place worth breaking a journey for.
