Trout fishing is popular here. The lake is well stocked, and fish caught range from 1kg to the occasional 20kg monster. Only artificial lures can be used. Small boats or dinghies are discouraged because the lake is 55km long and prone to dangerously large waves.

Ted's Beach, about 4km before Strathgordon, is a popular fishing spot with a boat launching area. Another popular site is the Edgar Dam area, 30km along the Scotts Peak Rd, just before Scotts Peak. Kayaking is also popular.

Always check the weather before you go out onto the water. Conditions here can change rapidly and there can be swells of up to 1.5m in certain wind conditions.
