Pink Panther (Larrimah) Hotel

Hotel in Larrimah

Originally a WWII officers' mess, now a cheerfully rustic and quirky pub offering basic rooms, meals (mains $12 to $34) and a small menagerie of animals. Its specialities are the homemade pies (which often sell out by midafternoon) and excellent burgers. The atmosphere is a cross between a cheerfully dishevelled forgotten outpost of the outback and an ageing art installation.

The hotel was moved from Birdum in the 1950s and it is even said that US General Douglas Macarthur planned his WWII strategy from the hotel for a time.
