Buy your return ticket (cash only, no bookings) for the Bruny Island Ferry from the drive-up ticket booth at Kettering. There are no such formalities on the way back – just queue up and drive on.
The ferry shuttles cars and passengers from Kettering across to Roberts Point on North Bruny, with at least 10 services daily each way (20 minutes) on two boats. The first ferry leaves Kettering at 6.30am (7.30am Sunday); the last one at 7pm. The first ferry from Bruny sails at 7am (8.30am Sunday); the last one at 7.15pm.
On summer weekends and over Christmas and Easter there are often long queues waiting to board the ferry, despite extra sailings. You’ll likely spend a significant chunk of the day queuing for the ferry at either end. Our advice: make it an overnighter rather than a day trip.
Note that the ferry timetable does vary occasionally – double-check departure times.
