Getting There & Away

There's no public transport to the mountain, so driving is your only option.

Note that the road up to the plateau is unsealed and includes Jacobs Ladder, a sensationally steep climb with six white-knuckle hairpin bends. During the snow season, chains are standard issue – hire them from Autobarn in Launceston ($40 per day, plus $60 deposit). Don’t forget antifreeze.

During the ski season, Ben Lomond Snow Sports runs a shuttle bus ($15/50 per person/family return) from the bottom car park at the Parks & Wildlife Service registration booth, 7km from the ski field. If you're catching the shuttle, you don't need to hire chains for your car. Call for pick-ups.
