Albany's appeal as a top-class diving destination grew after the 2001 scuttling of the warship HMAS Perth to create an artificial reef for divers. Southcoast Diving Supplies can show you the underwater world.

After whaling ended in 1978, whales slowly began returning to the waters of Albany. Now southern right and humpback whales gather near the bays and coves of King George Sound from July to mid-October. You can sometimes spot them from the beach. Both Albany Ocean Adventures and Albany Whale Tours run whale-watching trips in season.
