Aireys Pub

Top choice in Great Ocean Road

Established in 1904, this pub is a survivor, twice burning down before closing in 2011, only to be revived by locals chipping in to save it. Now it's better than ever, with an on-site brewery, Salt Brewing Co (www.saltbrewing.co). The food is gourmet pub fare (mains $24 to $42), enjoyed by a roaring fire or out in its sprawling beer garden.

The brewery's seven beers (go the Salt, featuring a splash of ocean water) include several seasonal ales, and are all brewed on-site. Grab a tasting paddle if you want to try them all (four/six beers $12/18).

The pub also has eco-cred, with its solar power and recycling initiatives.
