This relaxing Day Tour takes you from Perth to Guildford with a focus on the beautiful Swan river and its links to the past. We stop at a selection of significant locations along the way which have contributed to the development of the city, and your enthusiastic and helpful guide offers a fun, uniquely local sense of history and perspective. If you are interested in including food and wine tastings in the Swan Valley, this is an excellent way of starting your day with a little “entree” of historical perspective while setting the scene for a wonderful afternoons wine and dining experience. Guildford can be described as "The Gateway to the Swan Valley"
Back in the 1830's, the Swan River was the only means of transport from the tiny Perth settlement to Guildford some 15km upstream. The rich agricultural soils around Guildford offered great opportunities and ultimately led to the amazing wine growing region of the Swan Valley we know today.Around 9am, our tour begins at your designated pick up location or hotel in the Perth City area. We drive east along the northern banks of the Swan River, taking in views of the Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium. If you want to see kangaroos, this can be incorporated prior, with a 30 minute stop at Heirisson Island.Other significant stops include the Maylands Boatyard, (affectionately known as "The Boatyard of Broken Dreams"), Train, Toy and Natural History Museums which are all optional extras, subject to opening days. You can also stroll down the main Guildford street of Curios shops for a quirky range of gift shopping. The heritage listed Guildford Hotel built in 1886 is a magnificent building which survived a serious fire in 2008 and its restoration is impressive. A brief wander through is recommended, Lunch can be taken at any number of the highly recommended wineries within minutes of Guildford. For wine lovers, there is a huge selection in the nearby Swan Valley. For alternative taste options; chocolate, nougat and cheese factories are also close by.Following lunch, a small selection of iconic Swan Valley artisan destinations are on offer before heading back to Perth.
