Yemen braces for damage as first ever tropical cyclone hits

War-torn Yemen is being battered by the first tropical storm ever to hit the country, with ‘years’ worth’ of rain and intense winds.

Yemen usually has four inches of rain per year, but Tropical Cyclone Chapala is set to bring up to three times that amount in just one day. On Tuesday it was rated equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane. Dangerous mudslides and flash floods are expected, potentially causing huge damage to a country already in the grip of a humanitarian crisis. Read more:
