The world's most expensive macaron costs almost US$10k, but comes complete with a luxury hotel stay
Macarons have become a real thing all over the world, but they're usually an inexpensive treat. Brace yourselves though at the news that the Crystal Macaron is available for $9703 from the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Florida. The good news is that the most expensive macaron in the world comes with an overnight stay at one of the hotel's four-bedroom Sky Palace Suites, which house up to eight guests.
The hotel has launched a series of guest experiences in partnership with luxury French label Lalique, the French glassmaker and jeweller. The macaron is particularly fancy as it is made with white tea, comes dusted in edible 24-carat gold leaf flakes and is displayed on a bed of sugar crystals, It also comes complete with a keepsake Lalique crystal box. In case you're wondering how they came up with the price tag, it relates to the hotel's address - 9703 Collins Avenue.
You can savour your macaron in your own room as the complimentary butler tends to your wishes and requests. The glamorous suite features four 210 sq ft balconies providing views of the Atlantic ocean. To make the deal even sweeter, you'll be served the delicious cakes alongside traditional afternoon high tea on your balcony.
The macarons can also be enjoyed as part of a private dinner party in one of the suites. The resort also has partnered with Lalique to develop a unique cocktail programme consisting of three signature cocktails served in engraved glassware for $200 each.
