Brixton banknotes: world’s first local currency ATM opens in South London
A local currency cash machine, believed to be the first of its kind, has opened in Brixton, in South London. The ATM dispenses Brixton Pound banknotes, which can be spent in 300 local businesses, including shops, bars, and restaurants.
The notes carry images of local heroes, including David Bowie and NBA star Luol Deng, and have been designed by artists including Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller. Local council staff can ask to be paid in Brixton Pounds. The project aims to boost local businesses and the community. Read more: standard.co.uk
