A 33-year-old woman gave birth to a girl on a flight this week from Jordan to New York.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey disclosed that a nurse and doctor on the flight had come forward and helped to

deliver the baby. A spokesman, Joe Pentangelo, said the new baby weighed in at 6lb 5oz.

The birth happened over the Atlantic aboard Royal Jordanian Flight J261 on Tuesday at 5pm, the Guardian reports.

Pentangelo said the mother and baby were taken to a hospital after the aircraft landed at JFK airport around 7.30pm, and said they appeared to be in good health.

He said the woman is a citizen of Jordan and was travelling alone.
